How To Delete Chess.com Account

If you are here, it is likely that you are thinking about closing your account with Chess.com.

If you are sure about this decision, it is very easy to shut your account down, and it doesn’t take much time to do so, either.

In this guide, we will show you how to delete your account, as well as how to reopen it if you regret your decision later on. We will also show you how to cancel a membership.

So, let’s get started!

What Is Chess.com?

Chess.com is a website on which you can play virtual games of chess, joining servers to play against other players.

You can also play matches against an AI generated bot if you would rather not play against a real person.

This is one of the most popular chess platforms across the world, with over 100 million active users.

It hosts many tournaments online, which you will be able to join once you have created your own account for the site.

While it is completely free to play matches on Chess.com, there are three types of subscriptions that you can sign up for.

Each of these subscriptions give you access to further features, such as being able to view the statistics of each match that you played. These features can help you become a better chess player.

You can pay for these subscriptions monthly or annually, and the three memberships currently available are:

  • Gold ($27 annually)
  • Platinum ($49 annually)
  • Diamond ($99 annually)

If you simply want to play some casual chess matches without having to pay a hefty fee, you are free to do so.

However, if you are an avid chess player who wants to learn more, and become better at the craft, you may want to consider joining one of these memberships.

How To Reopen Your Chess.com Account

How To Delete Chess.com Account

If you have closed your Chess.com account, but now you’re regretting your decision, you may feel pretty bad about losing all of your progress.

This is especially true if you had previously been signed up to a membership.

Fortunately, not all hope is lost. It is actually possible to reopen your account, even if you have closed it.

In order to reopen your account, you will need to contact customer support and provide them with your previous details, e.g., the email address that you used to sign in.

Here are the steps you will need to follow to reopen your account.

  1. Start by clicking on the link above, and selecting the orange ‘Contact Us’ button at the bottom of the screen.
  1. Once the new page has opened, you will be given several options to choose from; each option will represent a reason that you would want to contact support. Select ‘Account Closed or Restricted’.
  1. On the following page, select the ‘My account is closed’ option, and then ‘I closed my own account’.
  1. You will then be provided with a form, in which you will need to fill in your details, including your Chess.com username and your email address. Once you have filled out the form, submit your request.

You can, additionally, email Chess.com at support@chess.com. This option may take a little longer, however, so your best bet would be to contact customer support and complete the form.

How To Cancel Your Chess.com Subscription

Cancelling your Chess.com subscription is not the same as deleting your account. It is entirely possible for you to cancel your membership without cancelling your entire account.

As we mentioned earlier, you can still play matches without a subscription, so a membership is not required unless you’d like to make use of Chess.com’s additional features, i.e., accessing your statistics and game reviews.

If you’d like to cancel your subscription, but keep your account intact, here is how you can do so.

  1. First things first, you are going to want to sign in to Chess.com with your own log-in details. You will need to type in your username or email address, along with your password.
  1. Once you have logged in, head over to Settings. You can find this by hovering over the Home icon, and then scrolling down to Settings.
  1. On the Settings page, you will need to scroll down the menu to find the ‘Account/Payment’ option. Click on this to be redirected to another page.
  1. You will now need to select ‘Manage Account’ towards the top of the page.
  1. Scroll down to find the ‘Cancel My Membership’ option. This will only be visible for those who have active subscriptions through their account. Click on this option, and follow the instructions to cancel your membership.

It couldn’t be easier to delete your Chess.com account, and it is just as simple to reopen it if you decide later on that you regret your decision.

It is also very easy to cancel any subscriptions through your account.

All you need to do is head to your Settings on your account, and find whichever option you are seeking out. The rest is easy!

We hope you found this guide useful.
