Meet The Team
Hey! My name is Jenna, and I am the founder of ChessArea.com. I have been playing chess competitively for about 3 years now, but chess has always been a part of my life growing up.
I would often visit my grandparents, and all I remember is them playing each other in chess every chance they got. My brother and I would cheer them on each night we slept over their house, wondering who was going to out-play the other.
Sometimes, the games would go on for days, and I always remember being told ‘don’t touch the board’ when it was left for the evening, unmoved, to carry on the sport the next day.
It absolutely fascinated me to watch them play, seeing the different strategies they would implement, and noticing how focused they were on beating the other.
When one of them won, we would all celebrate together in a bout of great sportsmanship!

As I got older, I stopped staying at my grandparents house, and chess was something that I put out of my mind with all of my school responsibilities and social life taking the forefront of my life.
That was until I saw The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix, and all of my love for chess came flooding back. I hadn’t thought about it for years. I was hooked.
I looked at videos online, asked my grandparents for advice, and practiced as much as possible. Of course, my grandparents were already experts, and at first I never won a match at all.
But I didn’t want to give up just yet. After many hours and days of practicing, I started to outwit my grandparents, and our games became competitive and so exciting!
With the TV show growing in popularity, the game of chess has seen a resurgence in popularity. I decided to put my grandparents' expertise, my own skills, and the knowledge I have gained over the years into practice, and start this website!
Here, I can offer you advice, tips, and have you playing like a pro in no time at all.
Hi! My name is Casey, and I am a writer here at ChessArea.
I have been playing chess for as long as I can remember, and I used to run a chess club when I was in high school! Some thought it was nerdy- I thought it was the best. When I went to university, I joined the first chess society I found.
I met Jenna about a year ago at a chess tournament, and we instantly clicked! Her passion for chess matched mine, and she told me about the site she had.
Having been an avid chess player, and a champion in many tournaments, I offered my skills and expertise up to Jenna, and she asked me to become an author here at ChessArea.com.
I couldn’t say no. Chess is my life, and if I can talk about it- I will!
